Our Mission
We are committed to promoting inclusion and reducing social and health inequality by working in partnership with justice-involved communities and the organisations that support them.
Through compassion, advocacy and fairness, we want to build evidence that will help to reduce stigma and social harm and improve the health and wellbeing of communities who have been harmed in some way by the criminal justice system.

Background
People experiencing health and care inequality are over-represented in the criminal justice system globally.
Becoming involved in the criminal justice system has overlapping health, social and justice consequences for individuals, communities and society. It harms the most disadvantaged and makes social problems even worse.
The criminal justice system isn’t working. People who have been involved in the criminal justice system have worse outcomes for health and life expectancy, poor engagement with health services, barriers to employment, it damages ties to friends and family, and these people face challenges integrating into society.
The criminal justice system is harmful – it is stigmatising and doesn’t adequately address social issues leading to crime.
Drawing on evidence-based research, we are interested in how complex social issues that lead to crime could be addressed differently, within and beyond the criminal justice system.
